Welcome to week 12 of my genius hour project. Throughout the past 12 weeks I have made a wide variety of food and given instructions for how to make others. Unfortunately I did not get a chance this week to make any type of food. However I am going to go over how I have progressed as a cooker/baker.
In the beginning of the project I barely knew how to use an oven. Throughout the weeks I became more confident and made many different foods. Luckily most of the foods turned out pretty good and only a few were bad. I would like to thank my mentor for all the help she has been. I also plan on making more different types of food in the future to further my skills.

I may have a new record. I have now made some type of food for 3 weeks in a row. This week I made Mac and Cheese from scratch with some help from a fellow classmate, William.
I really don't remember much of the recipe, but I'll give a basic summary of what we did. We had to grade the cheese, make the pasta, prepare the bacon and bread crumbs. There were quite a few different steps and this was easily the most complex recipe I have done for the project. It took roughly 2 hours to finish, but the time was definately worth it as it tasted so good and made quite a few servings. This was easily the hardest and best food I have made so far. Next week is the last week of the project, so I am going to try my hardest to make sure I make something. Also if I make something it will be 4 weeks in a row of actually baking/cooking. This week I made oatmeal cookies. This means that for 2 weeks in a row I have made something. The oatmeal cookies turned out pretty good and I ate all of them.
The oatmeal cookies took about 60 minutes to make. They also made about 18 cookies. I forgot to count them, but I think that it was around 18. I also forgot to take a picture of the cookies. I had been taking pictures of all the food I have been making for the presentation I'm going to do. So for the presentation people will just have to believe that I actually made them. This week was another success and I hope to finish the last 2 weeks of Genius Hour well. Hopefully next week I will continue to make food, so I don't have to make instructions for some sort of food. This week I actually made progress. After last week where I made no progress and just gave amazing instructions, this week I decided to bake a chicken. It surprisingly turned out very well and I was impressed by myself.
To make the chicken was simple. I took it out of the freezer. I then put some olive oil on it. Then I lightly seasoned them with Season All. I then put it into the oven for 60 minutes. After the 60 minutes I took it out and checked it to make sure it wasn't raw. There was a little pink in the meat so I put it back in the oven for 5 more minutes. Finally it was finished and it tasted pretty good. Hopefully next week I will keep making progress. I feel like lots of progress has been made since week 1. I have no idea what I will make next week, but I hope it at the very least tastes good. It was another very productive week. Not really. I didn't have time to make anything and so this week I'm going to give more great instructions. This week is about how make a bowl of cereal.
1. Take cereal, of your choosing, out of where ever you keep it. 2. Take out a bowl and spoon. 3. Take milk out of your refrigerator. 4. Open box of cereal and pour into bowl. 5. Open carton or jug of milk and pour into bowl. 6. Put spoon into bowl. 7. Enjoy your hard work. If the directions are unclear make sure to comment down below. Next week I hope to actually make some food instead of giving more instructions. This week I decided to make scrambled eggs and sausage. After last week of not making anything I've made some progress. Making anything this week would have been progress since last week was just instruction for how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
Both the eggs and the sausage turned out well. They took about a total of 20 minutes to make. The eggs were a little dry, but other than that they tasted pretty good. The sausage was also a little dry, but also tasted pretty good. If I could have changed anything I would change how long I cooked both of the foods so that they wouldn't be as dry. Overall this week was a success, especially compared to last week. My family also seemed to enjoy the dinner I prepared. Next week I'll hopefully continue to make food. Last week I said I was going to make chicken or banana bread. I ended up not making either of them. Instead I ended up making nothing in the last 2 weeks. So for this week I'm going to give directions on how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
First you get out the bread. Second you get the peanut butter and jelly of your choosing. Next you take the bread out of the bag. You then get a knife and open the jar of peanut butter. Insert the knife into the peanut butter and scoop some out. Then spread the peanut butter on one of the slices of bread. Then open the jar of jelly and insert the knife into it. You then scoop out the jelly and spread it on the other piece of bread. Finally you put the 2 pieces of bread together and enjoy. I hope you found these instructions beneficial to you. I know I did. I'll probably make something next week, hopefully. Welcome back to my Genius Hour project. This is week 5 and I decided to make sugar cookies. I found out that they weren't that hard to make and could be done in less than an hour, so I decided to make them.
The sugar cookies turned out pretty good in look and in taste. They took about 50 minutes to make. I ended up making 2 batches which was about 2 dozen. Once they were out of the oven all I had to do was put on the sugar and let them sit for a few minutes. The end product was surprisingly good, so I ended up eating all the cookies. My mentor then showed me how to clean up all the supplies and I was finished. In the end I think this week's food turned out to be a success and I enjoyed making them and eating them. Next week I'll make something different. I'm thinking of either banana bread or chicken. Welcome back. This is week 4 of my Genius Hour project. Last week I made lemon squares which tasted good but looked off. This week I finally made egg salad.
The egg salad turned out good. First I boiled my eggs on the stove. I then let them boil for about 10 minutes. After that I turned off the stove and let them sit in cold water for another 10 minutes. Once they were finished in the cold water I peeled the shell of the eggs. When the shells were off I cut up the eggs and then added Miracle Whip. I then mixed them up and the egg salad was ready to eat. They tasted really good but smelt awful. The egg salad turned out good. I hope all of the food I make turns out as good as it did. Next week I'll make some sort of food, I don't know what though. Welcome to week 3 of my genius hour project. Last week I said I was probably going to make egg salad or something else, but I didn't. I ended up making lemon squares. Maybe I'll make egg salad next week.
The lemon squares took about an hour to make and another hour to sit in the fridge so that they would be ready to eat. They were quite simple to make and the only difficulty was making sure the crust was well put into the pan. Other than that the mixing of the ingredients and baking it was extremely easy. After I finished them and took them out of the fridge I tried them. They tasted really good, but they looked off. The top of it just didn't look the way it should, but I didn't care as they tasted good. This week the recipe was good and the taste was better. Unfortunately they didn't look perfect. I don't exactly have a plan for what I will be making next week, but I may finally make egg salad or maybe I won't. |
